Procedure

Methyl 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-fluorobenzo[c][1,2,5]oxadiazol-5-yl)picolinate (70 mg, 0.21 mmol) was dissolved in 2 mL dry methanol, treated with 0.20 mL 30% sodium methoxide solution in methanol and stirred for 90 min at 20° C. The excess sodium methoxide was neutralized by addition of acetic acid and the volatiles were removed by rotary evaporation. The residue was taken up in 10 mL ethyl acetate, washed with 2 mL saturated NaHCO3, 2 mL saturated NaCl, dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated to give the title compound as white solid (51 mg, 72%): mp 142-144° C.; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.01 (d, J=9.3 Hz, 1H), 7.51 (d, J=9.3 Hz, 1H), 7.44 (s, 1H), 4.86 (s, 2H), 4.39 (s, 3H), 4.00 (s, 3H); ESIMS m/z 335 ([M+H]+), 333 ([M−H]−).
