Reaction Steps

To a solution of (4,5-dibromo-3-methylthiophen-2-yl)(4-ethylphenyl)methanone (54) (4.28 g, 10.6 mmole) in DCM/CH3CN (30 mL/30 mL) were added triethylsilane (5.1 mL, 31.9 mmole) and borontrifluoride diethyletherate (3.1 mL, 25.4 mmole) at 0° C. The resulting solution was stirred at ambient temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was quenched by adding MeOH (10 mL) and concentrated in vacuo. The crude residue was purified on Biotage® purification apparatus to yield the compound 55 2,3-dibromo-5-(4-ethylbenzyl)-4-methylthiophene (3.65 g, 9.76 mmole, 92%) as yellow oil.
