A mixture of 4,5-dimethyl-thiazol-2-ylamine (1.0 g, 7.8 mmol) and bromoacetic acid tert-butyl ester (1.4 mL, 9.4 mmol) was heated at 85° C. for 14 hours and then cooled to ambient temperature. Recrystallization of the residue from ethyl acetate provided 2.9 g of a 4:1 mixture of the title compound to starting 4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-ylamine.
