To a stirred solution of 4-bromo-1-chloro-5-methylisoquinoline (Intermediate-5) (5.0 g, 19.5 mmol) in dry MeOH (100 mL) was added NaOMe (1.3 g, 23.4 mmol) and the reaction mixture was refluxed overnight. Solvent was removed and the resultant crude product was extracted with EtOAc (2×200 mL), washed with water (2×100 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to furnished the title compound (4.5 g, 93%).
