Procedure
To the suspension of the acid chloride of 6-acetoxymethyl-2-oxo-2H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxylic acid (4 mmol) obtained according to Pochet et al. (Bioorg. Med. Chem. 2000, 8, 1489) in anhydrous dioxane (10 mL) was added 2-iodophenol (5 mmol) and pyridine (0.4 mL). After 12 h stirring at room temperature, the solvent was evapotated under vacuum and the residue was suspended in methanol. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with methanol and dried. The solid was crystallyzed in ethyl acetate (45%); mp: 156-158° C.
