A mixture of (2R,5R)-4-benzyloxycarbonylmethyl-5-fluoromethyl-2-methyl-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.42 g, 1.1 mmol), methanol (20 mL) and 10% palladium on carbon (0.14 g) was hydrogenated at 20° C. and 1 bar for 18 h. Catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate evaporated in vacuo to give the title compound (0.289 g) as an oil. MS: [M+H]+=291.
