Procedure

3.0 g of 2-amino-7-oxa-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid were suspended in 100 ml of methanol and 11.4 g of thionyl chloride were added at room temperature. The mixture was left at room temperature for 24 h. Then the volatiles were evaporated in vacuo to yield 3.9 g of the title compound as a racemic mixture.
