To a solution of benzyl hydroxycarbamate (1 g, 5.98 mmol) in DCM (20 ml) is added triethylamine (0.6 g, 5.98 mmol) and 2,2-dimethylpropanoyl chloride (0.74 ml, 5.98 mmol). After 2 hours the reaction mixture is quenched by the addition of water (10 ml) and the organics are extracted into DCM (2×20 ml), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to yield the title compound as a yellow oil which is used without any further purification. (1.6 g, 100%), 1H NMR (500 MHz, CHLOROFORM-d) δ ppm 8.02 (1H, br. s.), 7.29-7.43 (5H, m), 5.22 (2H, s), 1.30 (9H, s).
