400 mg (1.50 mmol) of (2S,3R)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4,4-trifluoro-3-methylbutanoic acid were dissolved in 24 ml of dichloromethane, 320 mg (2.40 mmol) of 1-chloro-N,N,2-trimethylprop-1-ene-1-amine were added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. 364 μl (4.5 mmol) of pyridine and 510 mg (1.80 mmol) of tert-butyl 3-(3-amino-4-chlorophenyl)-2,2-dimethylpropanoate were then added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The reaction mixture was then concentrated under reduced pressure, and the crude product obtained was purified by chromatography on silica gel (mobile phase cyclohexane/ethylacetate 20:1). This gave 462 mg of the target compound (58% of theory).
