Trifluoroacetic acid (37.5 mL, 487 mmol) was added rapidly dropwise to a stirred solution of 3a (8.62 g, 19.5 mmol) in DCM (100 mL) at 0° C. After 1 h, the reaction was quenched by careful addition of saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, followed by NaHCO3(s) and extracted with ether. The organics were washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound 3b. m/z (ES) 343 (MH)+.
