To a solution of 2-benzyl-2-azaspiro[4.4]nonan-4-ol (20.00 g, 86.5 mmol) in MeOH (200 mL) was added Pd/C (10% wt, 3.00 g). The suspension was stirred at 45° C. under a H2 atmosphere overnight and filtered. The filtered cake was washed with EtOAc (50 mL×3). The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give the product as yellow oil (12.21 g, 100%).
