Reaction Steps

To a solution of the 8-methoxydihydrobenzazepine (0.45 g, 1.6 mmol) from step F above in ethanol (60 mL) were added trifluoroacetic acid (0.8 mL) and palladium(II) hydroxide (0.15 g, 0.21 mmol). The reaction solution was shaken under hydrogen (35 psi) for 16 hours. The resultant reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of Celite and the filtrate obtained was concentrated in vacuo to give the desired 8-methoxybenzazepine (0.47 g, quantitative), which was used in the next step without purification: ESI MS m/z 282 [M+H]+.
