Reaction Steps

A 1M TBAF solution in THF (22.4 ml, 22.4 mmol) is added dropwise to a solution of 8-(tert-butyldimethylsilanyloxy)-5-[4-(1-phenyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)phenyl]quinoline (7.9 g, 14.90 mmol) in THF (20 ml). After stirring for 4 h, the mixture is washed with 5% aqueous NH4Cl (100 ml) solution and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×50 ml). The combined organic phases are dried over sodium sulfate, and the solvent is removed under reduced pressure. The crude product is purified by flash chromatography on silica and crystallisation from MeOH (5.9 g, 90%).
