Procedure

To a solution of (S)-4-(1-cyano-4-hydroxy-7-phenoxyisoquinoline-3-carboxamido)-2-hydroxybutanoic acid (73 mg, 0.18 mmol) in anhydrous MeOH (25 mL) was added concentrated H2SO4 (3 drops). The resulting mixture was heated to reflux for 20 hours. The volatiles were removed in vacuo and the residue was purified by flash chromatography (0-30% EtOAc/CH2Cl2) to give the title compound in 54 mg. MS: (−) m/z 420.26 (M−1).
