Procedure

3,9-Dimethyl-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexahydroazepino[4,5-b]indole (200 mg, 0.934 mmol) was dissolved in DMF (6 mL), CuI (17.7 mg, 0.09 mmol), L-proline (21 mg, 0.18 mmol), K3PO4 (397 mg, 1.86 mmol) was added and stirred for 10 min. at RT. 3-(1-Bromoprop-1-en-2-yl)pyridine (222 mg, 1.12 mmol) was added dropwise and the reaction mixture was heated at 90° C. for 18 h. DMF was evaporated under reduced pressure, 10 mL water was added and the mixture extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude compound was purified by column chromatography to 180 mg of the desired compound. 1HNMR (CD3OD, TFA salt) δ (ppm): 9.10 (s, 1H), 8.80 (s, 1H), 8.70 (d, 1H), 8.0 (t, 1H), 7.36 (s, 2H), 7.08 (m, 2H), 3.80 (m, 2H), 3.40 (m, 4H), 3.20 (m, 2H), 3.05 (s, 3H), 2.42 (s, 3H), 1.05 (s, 3H).
