Procedure
To a suspension of 7-bromo-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]indol-1-one (1.1 g, 4.4 mmol) in MeOH (20 mL), cooled to 0° C., was added NaBH4 (0.33 g, 8.8 mmol). After stirring at 0° C. for 1 h, the reaction was quenched with H2O and then extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined organic phases were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated to afford a white solid which was used without further purification. The crude solid was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (20 mL) and TBSCl (0.7 g, 4.4 mmol) and imidazole (0.33 g, 4.4 mmol) were added. After stirring at room temperature for 1 h, the reaction mixture was poured into H2O and extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined organic phases were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated to afford the title compound as a white solid (1.26 g, 79%).
