Procedure
In step c of Scheme 1, 3-(3-chloro-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (5b) is nitrated with nitric (HNO3) and sulfuric (H2SO4) acids to yield 3-(3-chloro-4-nitro-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (5c). The nitration may be conducted at about −10° C. to about 30° C.
