Suspension of 5-hydroxy-2,4,6-trimethylindan-1-one (4.74 g, 24.9 mmol) in THF (30 ml) was added at 0° C. to suspension of LiAlH4 (0.94 g, 24.9 mmol) in THF (50 ml). The mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature, stirred for 2 h. 5% HCl (20 ml) was added, resulting mixture was extracted by CH2Cl2 (4×50 ml), combined organic fraction was washed by water, dried over MgSO4, passed through silica gel, and evaporated. Residue was washed by cold pentane and dried in vacuo. The yield 3.75 g (86%).
