Methyl 3-(4-chloro-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)-4-methylbenzoate (compound 51.2, 133 mg, 0.53 mmol) was dissolved in a mixture of aqueous NaOH (2 M, 3 mL) and methanol (10 mL). The solution was heated at 50° C. for 16 hrs then the volatiles were removed under reduced pressure. Aqueous HCl (2 M) was added to adjust the pH to 4-5 then concentrated to yield 150 mg of a white solid which was used in the next step without further purification. m/z (ES−) 235 (M−H)−.
