Reaction Steps

Into a 100-mL round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of ethyl 4-methyl-1H-imidazole-2-carboxylate (compound 239.1, 100 mg, 0.65 mmol) in CH3CN (10 mL). NIS (218 mg, 0.97 mmol) was added to the reaction. The reaction mixture was stirred for overnight at room temperature, then concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved with 30 mL of EtOAc, then was washed with 2×20 mL of brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. This resulted in 80 mg (44%) of the title compound as a yellow solid.
