Into a 100-mL round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of 5-(methoxycarbonyl)-2,4-dimethylbenzoic acid (compound 255.1, 100 mg, 0.48 mmol) in dichloromethane (10 mL). Oxalyl chloride (80 μL, 0.95 mmol) was added and the resulting solution was stirred for 1 h at 40° C., then concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound as a white solid (80 mg, 74%).
