Into a 50-mL round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of methyl 3-(2-(4-methoxycyclohexyl)-4-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)-4-methylbenzoate (compound 300.2, 150 mg, 0.44 mmol) in methanol (4 mL). A solution of NaOH (70 mg, 1.75 mmol) in water (2 mL) was added to the reaction. The reaction mixture was stirred for 3 h at 50° C., then concentrated under reduced pressure. The reaction mixture was diluted with 2 mL of water. The pH of the solution was adjusted to 1 with HCl (2 M) and concentrated under reduced pressure. This resulted in 240 mg (crude) of the title compound as a light yellow solid.
