A mixture of 5-chloro-2-phenyl-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-c]-quinazolin-3-thione (200 mg, 0.64 mmol) and zinc dust (10 mg, 150 mmol) in acetic acid (5 ml) was heated to reflux temperature. The reaction was filtered, neutralized with saturated NaHCO3 solution and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×50 ml). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2 SO4 and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was washed with ethanol and filtered to afford 2-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-c]quinazolin-3-thione (compound 29), m.p. 222°-223° C.
