Reaction Steps
To a solution of 0.17 1 g (0.53 mmol) of the product of Step G dissolved in 2.5 mL of anhydrous DMF was added 0.023 g (0.58 mmol) of a 60% oil dispersion of sodium hydride and the reaction mixture was stirred under a nitrogen atmosphere for 30 minutes at room temperature. A solution of 0.134 g of methyl α-bromophenylacetate in 1.0 mL of DMF was then added via syringe and the reaction mixture was stirred an additional 1.5 hours. The reaction mixture was then partitioned between ethyl acetate and water, the organic layer was separated, dried (MgSO4), filtered and evaporated. The residual oil was purified on a silica gel flash chromatography column eluted with 75% ethyl acetate-hexane to afford after evaporation of the purified fractions and drying in vacuo 0.212 g (85%) of the title compound.
