Procedure
25 g (85 mmol) of ethyl 5,6-dihydro-5,7-dimethyl-6-oxo-4H-imidazo[1,5-a][1,4]benzodiazepine-3-carboxylate were heated to boiling under reflux for 1 hour with 3.40 g (85 mmol) of sodium hydroxide in 200 ml of ethanol and 15 ml of water. After evaporation of the ethanol the mixture was diluted with water and acidified with 21 ml of 4 normal hydrochloric acid. The suspension obtained was suction filtered and washed with water. After drying the suction filter cake there was obtained 5,6-dihydro-5,7-dimethyl-6-oxo-4H-imidazo[1,5-a][1,4]benzodiazepine-3-carboxylic acid of decomposition point 274-275°.
