Reaction Steps
A mixture of 3β-benzoyloxy-14α-carbethoxymethyl-5α-cholest-8,15-diene (209 mg, 0.36 mmole) in diglyme (5 mL) and 1N lithium hydroxide (5 mL) was heated at 125° C. to 135° C. for 4 hours, and worked up according to the procedure described in Example 2(iii) to provide 122 mg (77%) of white, crystalline 14α-carboxymethyl-5α-cholest-8,15-dien-3β-ol; mp 221°-222° C. (from CH3CN).
