Reaction Steps

Dissolve 5 g (16.5 mmol) of the product from Example VI in 100 ml of lN sodium hydroxide and hydrogenate over 2 g of 10% palladium on carbon at 50 psi for 16 hr. Remove the catalyst and neutralize the filtrate with ammonium chloride. Extract wih 2×100 ml of methylene chloride. Dry the combined extracts over sodium sulfate and remove the solvent in vacuo. Crystallize the residue from ethyl acetate to provide the title compound.
