1-(2,3-Dihydro-2-vinyl-1H-inden-2-yl)-ethanone (5.0 g) was dissolved in methylene chloride (50 ml) and to the solution bromine (4.3 g) in methylene chloride (45 ml) was added dropwise at room temperature. When a gas chromatogram indicated that the starting material had reacted, the methylene chloride solution was washed with a dilute NaHCO3 -solution and then with water. The organic layer was dried with Na2SO4 and the solvent was evaporated at reduced pressure to give the desired product.
