Procedure
To a stirred solution of 3.3 parts of 4,6-dimethyl-2,5-pyridinediamine in 30 parts of acetic acid were added 4.7 parts of 2-chloroacetyl chloride at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. The reaction mixture was diluted with methylbenzene and neutralised with sodium carbonate. The reaction mixture was filtered over diatomaceous earth and the filtrate was evaporated, yielding 2.6 parts (50.7%) of N-(6-amino-2,4-dimethyl-3-pyridinyl)-2-chloroacetamide as a residue (int. 97).
