Procedure
Under nitrogen atmosphere, 1 M LiAlH4 in diethyl ether (2.89 ml) was diluted with dry diethyl ether (30 ml) and cooled in an ice bath. A solution of (2E,4E)-1-azidododeca-2,4-diene (1 g) in dry diethyl ether (10 ml) was added slowly. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h, the ice bath was removed and stirring was continued for 1 h while warming to room temperature. Water was added carefully until gas evolution ceased and the reaction mixture was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to give a yellow liquid.
