A mixture of 6-chloro-4-(3-isopropyl-phenyl)-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-quinoline-3-carbonitrile (142 mg, 440 μmol, Eq: 1.00) and phosphorus oxychloride (2.02 g, 1.23 ml, 13.2 mmol, Eq: 30) was heated to reflux for 3 h. The reaction mixture was then poured into water and extracted with DCM (3×). The combined organic layers were washed with water and brine, dried with Na2SO4 and evaporated to afford the title compound (126 mg, light yellow solid). MS (ESI): 343.1 (M+H)+.
