Reaction Steps
To a solution of 5-bromopyridin-2(1H)-one (3.0 g, 17.2 mmol) in DMF (30 mL) was added iodomethane (7.34 g, 5.17 mmol) and potassium carbonate (14.24 g, 103.2 mmol) under argon. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 h, and was then concentrated under vacuum. The residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate (2×100 mL) and then washed with water (2×50 mL) and brine solution (2×50 mL). The organic phase was dried over sodium sulphate, concentrated under vacuum to afford 5-bromo-1-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.40 (s, 1H), 7.34 (d, 1H), 7.25 (s, 1H), 6.48 (d, 1H), 3.51 (s, 3H); LC-MS m/z calcd for [M+H]+ 189.96. found 190.0.
