8-Chloro-4,5-dihydro-6-oxa-1,3a,9-triaza-benzo[e]azulene-2-carboxylic acid 1-dimethylamino-methylideneamide (0.00907 mol) was dissolved in Acetic acid (36 mL). 2,4-Difluorophenylhydrazine hydrochloride (1.965 g, 0.01088 mol) was added and the reaction was stirred at 95° C. for 2.5 hours. The AcOH was removed in vacuo. The crude was triturated in iPrOH to afford 2.828 g (78% yield over 2 steps) of 8-Chloro-2-[2-(2,4-difluoro-phenyl)-2H-[1,2,4]triazol-3-yl]-4,5-dihydro-6-oxa-1,3a,9-triaza-benzo[e]azulene as a light brown powder clean by 1H NMR.
