4-(3-Acetyl-5-chloro-2-ethoxy-6-fluorophenyl)-1,3-oxazolidin-2-one (175 mg, 0.58 mmol) was stirred in methanol (10 mL) at 0° C. and sodium tetrahydroborate (33 mg, 0.87 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at rt for 1 hour and evaporated. Water was added and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extracts were washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated to give an approximate 1:1 mixture of diastereomers, 175 mg, 99%. LCMS calculated for C13H15ClFNO4Na (M+Na)+: m/z=326.1; found: 326.1.
