Procedure
N,N-dimethyl-2-isopropylpiperidinium cation was synthesized in the manner as described in Example 1 starting with 2-isopropylpiperidine, potassium bicarbonate and methyl iodide in methanol as the reagents. The reaction afforded N,N-dimethyl-2-isopropylpiperidinium iodide in greater than 95% yield. The iodide counter-ion was ion exchanged for hydroxide in the manner as described in Example 1 to afford the corresponding N,N-dimethyl-2-isopropylpiperidinium hydroxide in quantitative yield.
