To a solution of (1R,5S)-9-tert-butyl 7-methyl 3-methyl-3,9-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]non-6-ene-7,9-dicarboxylate (4.69 g, 15.8 mmol) in methanol (50 mL) was added palladium on carbon (10%, 1.684 g, 1.583 mmol) and the resulting mixture was subjected to hydrogenation under 40 psi for three days. After filtration through CELITE® under nitrogen the filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound. LC/MS: (M+1)+: 299.1.
