Reaction Steps

To a solution of 4-bromo-5-ethenyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one (2.00 g, 8.37 mmol) in DCM (20 mL) was slowly added mCPBA (2.6 g, 8.4 mmol) at 0° C. The flask was warmed to room temperature; the mixture was then stirred for 12 hours. The mixture was washed with aq. Na2S2O3, aq. NaHCO3, and water. The organic layers was washed with brine and then concentrated to dryness. The residue was purified over silica gel to give the title compound.
