Reaction Steps
A mixture of 2-amino-3-methylpyridine (2.16 g, 20 mmol) and 2-chloro-5-(chloromethyl)thiazole (1.68 g, 10 mmol) in N-methylpyrrolidinone (10 mL) was heated at 180° C. in a microwave reactor for 10 min. The cooled reaction mixture was poured into a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated, washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel eluted with 10% ethyl acetate in hexanes to provide the title compound as an oil (2.0 g).
