Reaction Steps
trans-Ethyl 2-(4-Fluorophenyl)cyclopropane-1-carboxylate (793 mg, 4.57 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (7 mL) was stirred with lithium aluminium hydride (173 mg, 4.57 mmol) under cooling with ice for 10 minutes. After addition of 1 M aqueous sodium hydroxide, the reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL), mixed with triphenylphosphine (999 mg, 3.81 mmol), isoindoline-1,3-dione (560 mg, 3.81 mmol) and azodicarboxylic acid diisopropyl ester-toluene solution (1.9 M, 2.00 mL, 3.81 mmol) under cooling with ice, and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=5/1 (v/v)) to give the title compound as a colorless solid (975 mg, yield 87% (2 steps)).
