Procedure
Indole-3-acetic acid (5 g, 28.54 mmol) was dissolved in diethyl ether (100 mL) and the solution was cooled to 0° C. Lithium aluminum hydride (1.19 g, 31.39 mmol) was added thereto, followed by stirring for 4 hours. The reaction was terminated with the addition of water and a 10% sodium hydroxide solution. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was purified by column chromatography to afford the title compound (1.24 g, 27%).
