Procedure
An 18-mL test tube was charged with 4-chloro-2-(3-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridine HCl salt (30 mg, 0.1 mmol, 1 eq. Synthesis of this compound was described in step 1 of EXAMPLE 1) and methyl 2-(4-aminophenyl)acetate (33 mg, 0.2 mmol, 2 eq.). The resulting mixture was heated at 150° C. under Ar for 1 hr. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was partitioned between NaHCO3 aq. (10 ml) and dichloromethane (10 ml). The organic layer was collected and concentrated on a rotary evaporator. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel using dichloromethane followed by 1˜3% of MeOH in dichloromethane as eluent to give methyl 2-[4-[[2-(3-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridin-4-yl]amino]phenyl]acetate (31 mg, 77% yield).
