An 18-mL vial was charged with methyl 2-[4-[[2-(3-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridin-4-yl]amino]phenoxy]acetate (11.8 mg, 0.029 mmol, 1 eq.) and LiOH/H2O (42 mg, 1 mmol, 34 eq.). THE (1 ml) and H2O (0.5 ml) was added to the vial. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. 2 N HCl aq. (0.5 ml) was added and the volatile material was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel using dichloromethane followed by 10% of methanol in dichloromethane as eluent to give 2-[4-[[2-(3-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridin-4-yl]amino]phenoxy]acetic acid, which was treated with 4N HCl in dioxane (2 ml). After the volatile material was removed under reduced pressure, 2-[4-[[2-(3-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridin-4-yl]amino]phenoxy]acetic acid HCl salt was obtained (8 mg, 65% yield). MW=431.31. 1H NMR (DMSO-D6, 360 MHz) δ 7.88 (s, 1H), 7.70 (s, 1H), 7.47 (m, 2H), 7.23 (m, 2H), 6.94 (m, 3H), 4.67 (s, 2H), 2.95 (m, 2H), 2.82 (m, 2H), 2.09 (m, 2H).
