A solution of 4-chloro-6-(3-chlorophenyl)-2-ethylpyrimidine (0.100 g, 0.39 mmol), 4-aminophenethyl alcohol (0.081 g, 0.59 mmol) and HCl in dioxane (4.0 M, 0.023 mL, 0.59 mmol) in ethanol (2 mL) was heated to 85° C. for 3 h. After this time, the reaction was cooled, neutralized with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and the filtrate was concentrated. The residue was purified by preparative HPLC (water/acetonitrile with 0.05% TFA) to afford the title compound (0.027 g, 27%) as a light yellow solid. MW=353.85. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 500 MHz) δ 8.01 (t, J=1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.88 (d, J=7.6 Hz, 1H), 7.69-7.57 (m, 4H), 7.25 (d, J=8.3 Hz, 2H), 7.04 (s, 1H), 3.61 (t, J=7.0 Hz, 2H), 2.87 (q, J=7.6 Hz, 2H), 2.72 (t, J=7.0 Hz, 2H), 1.33 (t, J=7.6 Hz, 3H); APCI MS m/z 354 [M+H]+.
