A mixture of 4-chloro-2-(3-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridine hydrochloride (0.120 g, 0.40 mmol), methyl 2-(4-mercaptophenyl)acetate (0.100 g, 0.55 mmol), and Et3N (0.145 g, 1.3 mmol) in DMF was heated at 110° C. for 24 h. After this time, the mixture was concentrated, diluted with EtOAc (100 mL), washed with 10% aqueous LiCl (2×100 mL), dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with 100% hexanes to 1:1 ethyl acetate/hexanes to afford the title compound (0.164 g, 100%) as a white solid. MW=409.93. 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) δ 7.78-7.77 (m, 1H), 7.61-7.46 (m, 3H), 7.37 (d, J=8.2 Hz, 2H), 7.30-7.28 (m, 3H), 6.89 (s, 1H), 3.73 (s, 3H), 3.70 (s, 2H), 3.09 (t, J=7.7 Hz, 2H), 2.90 (t, J=7.4 Hz, 2H), 2.24-2.05 (m, 4H); APCI MS m/z 410 [M+H]+.
