To a solution of tert-butyl(1-(4-(5-nitro-6-(nitromethyl)-3-phenylpyridin-2-yl)phenyl)cyclobutyl)carbamate (74 mg, 0.15 mmol) in EtOH (50 mL) was added Raney Nickel (17 mg, 0.15 mmol). The resulting mixture was purged with nitrogen and with H2 and then stirred under H2 (1.5 bars) overnight at room temperature. The black mixture was filtered through celite, rinsed few times with EtOH (making sure that the cake remained wet at all times), dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was used directly without purification.
