Reaction Steps

A mixture of ethyl-5-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)isoxazole-3-carboxylate (0.96 g, 3.37 mmol), Selectfluor (1.25 g, 3.53 mmol), and tetramethylene sulfone (7.5 g, 62.5 mmol) was heated to 120° C. for 8 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with water, stirred for 5 minutes and the resulting white crystals were collected, washed with water and purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with dichloromethane to obtain the title compound (147 mg, 0.53 mmol).
