20 ml water is added to the mixture. The product is extracted with ethyl acetate (3 times 50 mL) then the organic phase is washed successively with water and a saturated solution of sodium chloride (10 mL). The organic phases are dried over Na2SO4, filtered then concentrated to dryness in order to produce a brown oil. The oil is purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (eluent: cyclohexane/ethyl acetate: 3/7) in order to produce 200 mg of the expected product (S) 2-{[1-(2-acetylamino-acetoxy)-ethoxycarbonyl]-methyl-amino}-2-phenyl-n-butyl 3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzoate in the form of a brown solid (yield=7%).
