Procedure
2-Bromo-4′-methoxyacetophenone (available from Oakwood Products, Inc.; 144.3 mg, 0.63 mmol) was added to a suspension of 2′-nitro-4-thiocarbamoyl-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (which may be prepared as described for Intermediate 4; 200 mg, 0.63 mmol) in dioxane (4 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred at 40° C. for 16 h. The precipitate was collected by filtration (187 mg) and used directly in the next step without purification.
