Procedure

2′-Nitro-4-(4-pyridin-2-yl-thiazol-2-yl)-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid (200 mg, 79%) was prepared from 2′-nitro-4-thiocarbamoyl-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (which may be prepared as described for Intermediate 4) and 2-(bromoacetyl)pyridine hydrobromide (available from Oakwood Products, Inc.) using the procedure described for the preparation of Example 1. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.67 (d, J=4.9 Hz, 1H), 8.60 (d, J=1.9 Hz, 1H), 8.50 (s, 1H), 8.26-8.30 (m, 2H), 8.15 (d, J=7.5 Hz, 2H), 8.00-8.05 (m, 1H), 7.76-7.81 (m, 1H), 7.62-7.68 (m, 1H), 7.41-7.49 (m, 3H).

Workup
