A 4.0 mol/L-hydrochloric acid-ethyl acetate solution (0.13 L) was added to an ethyl acetate (0.19 L) solution of N2-(t-butoxycarbonyl)-N,N2,O-trimethyl-3-oxoserinamide (Intermediate 4-2, 62 g), and the mixture was stirred for 24 hours at room temperature. The precipitated solid was filtered off, and washed with ethyl acetate to obtain N,N2,O-trimethyl-3-oxoserinamide hydrochloride (Intermediate 5-2, white solid) (39 g, 84%).
